Food-grade chamomile flavor is a food additive that mimics the aroma of natural chamomile (typically referring to the flowers of German chamomile or Roman chamomile). Chamomile is known for its unique apple-like aroma, soothing properties, and herbal flavor, and this flavor aims to provide its gentle and refreshing flavor characteristics.
Flavor Profile: The core characteristics are a gentle, refreshing floral and herbal aroma, accompanied by a sweet scent similar to green apples or hay. The flavor is delicate, elegant, slightly sweet, without any irritating or bitter taste, giving a soothing and relaxing feeling.
Aroma Type: Sweet herbal-fruity aroma, with a soft honey and apple-like aftertaste. The top note is refreshing, and the base note is warm. It can mask beany off-flavors and impart a “soothing” sensation.
Key Ingredients: Primarily chamomile essential oil (containing matricin, α-bisabolol, chamomile alcohol, sesquiterpenes), supplemented with vanillin and ethyl maltol to balance the sweetness; commercially available forms are mostly spray-dried powders (maltodextrin carrier), and water/oil-soluble liquids are also available.
